Madam Sylvia Annor, Head of Public Affairs at the Electoral Commission, has said her outfit is committed to ensure free and fair elections in the upcoming December polls.
She stressed that, EC’s decision to compile a new voters’ register ahead of the 2020 general elections is necessary which will help in curbing rigging and manipulation of election results.
Sylvia Annor said the country needs to have free and fair elections in 2020, therefore, a new voter’s register will help achieve that aim.

“The Electoral Commission is focused on delivering an incontrovertible election this year; elections that will be free and fair because our objective is to facilitate and see that the will of the people expressed is the outcome of the election. It is only when that is done that people will have confidence in our multi-democratic system, the political parties and the EC as well. So I will encourage people to support and corporate with the EC so that our objective of the 2020 election will be achieved,”Sylvia Annor told Truth TV News
The Supreme Court in a unanimous decision earlier today held that the EC in “exercising their discretion in the discharge of their constitutional mandate in cleaning the voter’s register should be deemed as authorized to be acting within the law and regulations therein, and cannot be faulted even if it is considered that there is a more efficient mode or method available.”
The court reiterated its decision in Abu Ramadan (No.2) in which it held that the Electoral Commission “in performing their mandate under Article 45 of the Constitution 1992 cannot be compelled to act in a particular manner unless there is clear evidence that they acted unconstitutionally.”
