GREATER ACCRA MINISTER COMMENDS PUBLIC AND COVID-19 ENFORCEMENT TEAMS

Story Reported by Samuel Nana Yaw

I write to extend our profound gratitude to all major stakeholders for their cooperation in the adherence to the COVID-19 protocols throughout the Easter festivities.

My endless gratitude also goes to the Christian community for the cooperation during the Easter season and the adherence to the COVID-19 Safety protocols as elucidated by His Excellency the President as part of the fight against the spread of the pandemic.

Though the restrictions affected the usual celebration of the Easter festivities, we all appreciated the fact that, we are not in normal times and largely complied with the stringent but necessary restrictions.

I take this opportunity to acknowledge the tremendous assistance from the Minister for Defence, Hon. Dominic Nitiwul (MP) with the Ghana Armed Forces; the Minister for Interior, Hon. Ambrose Dery (MP), the Inspector General of Police – James OppongBoanuh, the Accra Region Police Commander – DCOP Afful Boakye-Yiadom, the Tema Region Police Commander – DCOP Barima Tweneboah Sasraku II and the diligent men and women of the Ghana Police Service.

I also wish to appreciate the Comptroller General of the Ghana Immigration Service Kwame Asuah Takyi, for supporting the Police Service with men and women who patrolled the beaches and recreational centres to ensure the strict compliance of the COVID-19 safety protocols on recreational gatherings.

Again, we extend our special appreciation to the Minister for National Security, Hon. Albert Kan-Dapaah; the National Investigation Bureau and all other supporting agencies and staff of the security and intelligence services.

The ever-present support of the hardworking staff of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and the Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDCEs) has also been very helpful in our quest to implement the COVID-19 safety protocols throughout the festive season.

I wish to also express my heartfelt gratitude to the hospitality service providers for their seamless collaboration throughout this festive season even though the implementation of the protocols impacted negatively on their businesses.

I am thankful for the general cooperation and the healthy collaboration with the members of the media and other critical stakeholders thus far, and pray it continues.

I finally thank the general public for the wide adherence to the COVID-19 safety protocols throughout the period. Out of the usual, our beaches were empty throughout the season especially, on Easter Monday in compliance with the COVID-19 safety protocols imposed as a matter of necessity to curb the spread of the virus.

I take this opportunity to call on all state institutions, formal and informal sectors, Unions, Associations, other stakeholders, and all city dwellers to join the partnership for the “LET’S MAKE ACCRA WORK” project.
