A group calling itself, Zongo Democrats has expressed with scorn and disdain the rampant killing of Muslims and Zongo dwellers in the country.
Addressing a news conference in Accra on Thursday, the Convener of Zongo Democrats, Shaikh Mubarak Hussein cited the cases of Ejura, Ahmed Suale and the killing of some Zongo Dwellers in other parts of the country, describing the act as vindictiveness against Muslims by state Securities.
In the recent incidence of high level irresponsibility and lack of professionalism demonstrated by the state security agencies, they stand indicted and their attitude perfectly fits in the suspicion that, religious vindictiveness against Muslims and the covert agenda to oppress the voiceless and vulnerable Zongo dwellers are orchestrations of the state institutions and their Sponsors. Our claim of obnoxious agenda of the state can be corroborated by preceeding events which claimed the lives of our Muslim brothers as follows”, Shaikh Mubarak emphasized.
He said it has become apparent in recent times that, the escalating insecurity in the country has taken an unprecedented dimension and “we of the above named organization wish to register our resentment against the unbridled killing of Muslims, reminiscent of the era of ethnic and religious cleansing agenda”.
According to him, the killing of Ibrahim Mohammed aka Kaaka and two others is a clear cut case of attack on an innocent persons in Ejura in the Ashanti region, insisting that the state security stands indicted, given the nonchalant posture it took in investigating the matter in order to bring the perpetrators to book.
As if that was not enough, the state security agencies deliberately opened fire into a crowd of Muslims who were returning from the burial of our deceased brother who had been denied justice”, he added.
Shaikh Mubarak also expressed worry over failure of the Police in Manso Nkwanta to charge the police who shot and killed 5 innocent Zongo young men they mistook as armed robbers adding that the security agencies under the NPP government have turned blind eye on series of events that led to the killing.of Ahmed Suale.
“On the 16th of July, 2019, a seasoned journalist Ahmed Hussein Suale was gunned down by unknown Assailants after his pictures were flaunted on a Television station, calling on the public to harm him should they find him. Again, because he was a Muslim and a Zongo boy, the security agencies under this government have turned a blind eye on his matter, and the perpetrators of such a heinous crime have not been brought to book till date”, Shaikh Mubarak fumed.
He later catalogued other muslims who have been killed in this country including Sheikh Ali Kalamul Faida, Alhassan Tajudeen in Techiman South, Abdallah Ayarick in Techima South, 12 year old Samira Zakaria in Savelugu and Inrahim Abass in Ablekuma Central.
The group could not fathom why the Police invariably effect arrest and arraign suspects who kill non – muslims to court but drags their feet when same happens to Muslims.
He said by the foregoing arguments, “we believe to have convinced the public beyond any reasonable doubt that, the predetermined murders of recent times were motivated by a grand agenda to oppress Muslims and Zongo dwellers by the state security agencies”.
Shaikh Mubarak therefore cautioned the state security to desist from what he described as religious and discrimination in order to avoid incurring the wrath of Muslims and Zongo Dwellers in the country adding that wish to serve notice to all state security agencies that, “we shall continue to hold them accountable for the murder of our innocent Zongo brothers and sisters until justice is served to their departed souls.
“We finally wish to call on his Excellency Alhaji Mahmudu Bawumia as the Muslim representative in the high office of the President and the chairman of the Police service council to call out the actions of the security agencies, prosecute the perpetrators and demonstrate to his government that indeed, Muslims lives matter, Zongo lives matter and the lives of all vulnerable and voiceless Ghanaians truly matter” Zongo Democrats stressed.
