*THE LIGHT FOUNDATION Marks World Peace Day with Religious and Traditional Leaders in Fostering Peace and Social Cohesion among the Youth in Ghana* 


A peace conference convened by the Light Foundation a multi-faith organization on the 21 September, 2023 at Miklin Hotel, Accra, with active representation of the National Peace Council, National Chief Imam, Embassies and Diplomats, Peace and Security Experts, National and international Non-profit organizations, Chiefs and Religious leaders. Local NGOs, Youth leaders, women among others.

The Conference agreed on the need to ensure the meaningful participation of young people and religious leaders in decision making process; and resourcing youth and faith-focused peace and social cohesion campaigns and initiatives.

The  recognised the role of Religious Leaders as a strong block of society, and called for a holistic approach to peace and security, including peace education, sensitization and awareness campaigns, building on community  engagements and mechanisms, which include using sports, and media engagement to address the root and structural causes of conflict; a focus on reducing the risks of youth radicalization  and support for religious leaders and youth peace ambassadors and peace clubs in promotion process.

The Conference highlighted the need to continue enhancing collaboration and strategic coordination among all stakeholders, including the media, private sector and other youth-led organizations, to leverage on their comparative strengths in advancing the peace promotion agenda. 

This requires strong stakeholder commitment to provide the needed support and resources in knowledge co-creation, capacity building in advancing sustain peace and security with strong youth participation..

The Light Foundation in advancing it's core Mandate of promoting peace and social cohesion in Ghana, mobilizes internal resources every year to mark World Peace Day.


This year peace conference was graced by very prominent people across the entire nation, especially the office of the National Chief Imam, National Peace Council, Saudi Embassy, Kuwait Embassy, World Vision International, Qatar Embassy, Emirate Embassy, SNV Netherlands Development Organization, Christian Council of Ghana, Catholic Relief Services, Global Communities, USAID/ASBC Activity.
