Ga-Dangbe Journalists Association receives exclusive tour of Electro Chem's futuristic Songor Salt Project



In a remarkable visit to the sprawling facilities of Electro Chem Industries Limited, producers of Songor Salt, the Ga-Dangbe Journalists Association received an exclusive tour of the ambitious undertaking set to become Africa's largest salt manufacturing plant.

The project, which has seen the Songor Salt drying for an impressive four decades, is a subsidiary of the renowned McDan Group of companies.

The journey to establish this colossal salt plant has been no small feat. The total investment in the venture to date has reached an impressive US$88 million, emphasising the dedication of the McDan Group to push the boundaries in the salt production industry.

This initiative aims to revolutionize traditional salt production methods in the area, bringing advanced technology and sustainable practices to enhance efficiency and increase production.

As part of their corporate social responsibility, Electro Chem Industries Limited has undertaken various initiatives that have positively impacted the local community in the Greater Accra Region.

These efforts include road construction, women empowerment programmes, community support projects, and contributions to health and sanitation. Such investments in the community underscore the company's commitment to fostering development in the region.


When completed, the Songor Salt project is poised to stand as a testament to innovation and growth in the African salt industry, promising to be the continent's largest salt manufacturing facility.
